COUNSELLING & PSYCHO-THERAPEUTIC SERVICES

Are you looking for a safe and confidential environment to explore the way you’re thinking or feeling?

Counselling can be useful for anyone who wants to explore the way they’re thinking or feeling further, as well as anyone experiencing problems or issues they are keen to resolve.

Counselling and Psycho-Therapeutic Services (C.A.P.T.S) provides a safe and confidential place where you can talk about your issues that are preventing you from functioning the way you think you should.

The first session is the consultation session which usually lasts for 50-60 minutes, where the type of counselling on offer will be explained and information collated to start the therapeutic process either to help you to reconcile your issues or help you to find ways of coping. Don’t worry if you find it difficult to talk about all of your issues during the first session as we will continue to collate information during further sessions, which will last for 50 minutes (minimum 6 sessions).

The type of therapy used will depend on the issues that you are facing and how you would like to address those issues. Together we will decide on a therapy type when we have found out more about you, the way you think and what you are hoping to gain from therapy.

C.A.P.TS also provides couples therapy, telephone therapy, individual and group supervision. All sessions are confidential and tailored to meet your needs and availability.

We are available to take your calls and bookings on Monday to Friday between 9.00am and 5.00pm. We can also provide counselling and supervision outside of our normal working hours. C.A.P.T.S is a fully registered Member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP).

Please call or email us for more information or to book a consultation session.

Our Counselling Services

Weight loss therapy is a form of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), which is a psychological therapy used to treat a multitude of problems ranging from stress, depression, anxiety to eating disorders or even obesity. While CBT isn’t a substitute for proper lifestyle decisions such as getting appropriate amounts of exercise or limiting caloric intake, it’s often used as a supplemental approach to help you to support lifestyle changes.

Bereavement therapy is a specialised type of therapy that involves supporting you if you have experienced the loss of a loved one. This counselling helps you to work through your grief as well as to learn coping mechanisms if you are on your own. Bereavement counselling is recommended for anyone, of any age, whose loss seems overwhelming or whose life is being adversely affected by grief.

There are many kinds of talk therapy used for depression and anxiety. The two most common that we use are cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and interpersonal therapy. CBT focuses on looking at how your negative thought patterns may be affecting your mood. Your therapist will help you to make positive changes in your thoughts and behaviours. Interpersonal therapy focuses on how you relate to others and helps you make positive changes in your personal relationships.

Fulfilling and supportive relationships don’t come easily! They require good social skills and a great deal of time and energy to go the distance. In some cases our relationships may not be fulfilling our expectations, which can impact our happiness and life satisfaction. Some people may crave close friendships or romantic relationships but find them very difficult to come by. Our therapist will work with couples or individuals to explore their needs and what they want from their relationships, while offering support to help them get their relationships back on track.

Supervision is an essential part of the counselling and psychotherapy process. All counsellors and psychotherapists, regardless of their experience need supervision. Supervision exists for two reasons: to protect clients, and to improve the ability of counsellors to provide value to their clients. Supervision protects clients by involving an impartial third party in the work of a counsellor and client, helping to reduce the risk of serious oversight and helping the counsellor concerned to reflect on their own feelings, thoughts, behaviour and general approach with the client.

Personal therapy for trainee counsellors is an essential part of the training. It gives the trainee counsellors first-hand experience what it is like to be a client who is talking about difficult and personal things to somebody they don’t really know. It offers trainee counsellors the opportunity to find any blind spots they may have and to explore any unresolved issues from their past. In addition, personal therapy adds to the knowledge and skills gained, promotes self awareness and enhances the effective understanding of the counselling process.

BEREAVEMENT THERAPY

I would like to thank C.A.P.T.S for their kindness, understanding and for providing a counselling service tailored for me. I would especially like to thank my bereavement therapist for his patience, kindness, help and understanding given to me during my sessions with him. I did not know what to expect when first arranging to meet with him but my sessions have provided me with understanding confidence and strength to go forward with my life following the death of my dear mother. The beautiful flowers in our garden reminds me of the beautiful life my mother lived. I would have no hesitation in recommending C.A.P.T.S to any family, friends or colleagues.
